About Ecosia

Ecosia is a search engine founded in Berlin in 2009 that uses its advertising profits to fund tree planting. The company reports having financed well over 200 million trees across more than 35 countries, focusing on biodiversity hotspots and projects run with local communities.

Search results are powered by partners such as Bing and Google, supplemented with Ecosia's own green ranking signals that highlight climate-friendly businesses. The company publishes monthly financial reports, runs its infrastructure on renewable energy and builds solar plants that feed more electricity into the grid than its searches consume.

Ecosia is a steward-owned company: its shares cannot be sold and profits cannot be taken out by founders or investors, a legal structure designed to make the ecological mission permanent. As a B Corporation it is independently audited against social and environmental standards.
